A Tesla car has been added to the police fleet in Boulder City. At least one Model Y is equipped for patrol, in an effort for the city to be more environmentally friendly and economical.

The Boulder City, Nevada, Police Department introduced new electric vehicles to its fleet this week. Although the exact number has not been released, at least one Tesla Model Y is known to have entered service, according to a photo posted by the City of Boulder on Facebook. The image also indicates that this is a Long Range AWD version.

Boulder City has said it is committed to reducing fossil fuel use and has begun buying electric vehicles for its fleet. Since the police department is the largest consumer of gasoline, it was decided to immediately start making environmental efforts to modernize its fleet. In addition to environmental benefits, electric vehicles are very economical to charge and maintain, which means they save taxpayers money.

However, the environmental friendliness and economy of Tesla Model Y was not the only reason for this choice. Boulder City reported that delivery times were the shortest among competitors whose vehicles could meet their requirements.
