Tesla has officially completed the expansion of its production facilities at Giga Shanghai. Now the installed capacity of the factory is about 1.1-1.2 million vehicles per year.

Tesla has completed a project to expand production capacity at its Shanghai plant, according to a statement on the Shanghai government's environmental disclosure platform for companies on Monday. According to the filing, the factory will be testing production lines for the upgrade from September 19 to November 30.

Tesla planned to invest up to 1.2 billion yuan ($170 million) in expanding its production capacity, which would increase the number of jobs by 4,000 people. The project was originally supposed to be completed in April 2022, but due to the COVID-19 lockdown in China, the plans were pushed back.

According to unofficial data, Giga Shanghai has increased its installed production capacity to 1.1-1.2 million vehicles per year. This equates to producing over 90,000 Model 3s and Model Ys monthly, which is absolutely impressive for the industry. The ability to correctly prioritize and determine the direction of development made Tesla the most impressive success story in the automotive industry, which became a new model for building an automotive business for other companies.

From January to August of this year, the Giga Shanghai plant sold almost 400,000 vehicles and is close to surpassing the 484,000 vehicles delivered for the whole of 2021. Apparently, as early as September, Tesla's Chinese factory will deliver about 500,000 vehicles in 2022. This brings Giga Shanghai even closer to delivering a mind-boggling 750,000 by the end of 2022.
