Tesla Is an Example in Doing Business, Says Malayasian Prime Minister

The Prime Minister of Malaysia has cited Tesla as an example of how business should work in the country. He urged the public service to abandon its old ways of getting things done, taking note of Tesla's efficiency in getting to market.

Tesla is a non-standard company in many ways. The manufacturer conducts business in a unique way that pays off. If Tesla intends to enter a market, and the conditions meet its requirements, then the company develops at lightning speed, changing the ideas of local government agencies and companies about how things should be done. The company's speed has been demonstrated in China with the construction of Giga Shanghai and in Germany with Giga Berlin.

In Malaysia, Tesla is following the same path, which was noted by the country's Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking to approximately 1,000 Dell Technologies employees at a city hall meeting at their Bukit Minyak plant, Anwar said he was impressed with how quickly Tesla has moved to establish its national headquarters.

“Half a month ago, he [Elon Musk] gave his commitment. Ten days ago, he sent his regional chief to meet me to tell me they are buying a huge building in Cyberjaya, and they want me to officiate the opening,” he said, according to Free Malaysia Today.

“All this in weeks… [But] we are so slow. That is why I tell our civil servants that we cannot be [set] in our old ways. ‘Managing, tender, discuss, commissions’. We can't anymore,” the prime minister added.

Elon Musk asked to meet Anwar a few weeks ago. After a 25-minute meeting, the main directions of development in the country were outlined and cooperation was agreed upon. On July 14, the Prime Minister announced that Tesla will establish a headquarters in Malaysia this year, as well as service centers in Selangor. In a July 20 announcement, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority said Tesla's state-of-the-art head office and service center will be located in Cyberjaya.
