SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell has set ambitious goals for the company, aiming to complete 100 missions in 2023. This target marks a substantial increase from the previous year, nearly doubling the number of missions they undertook in 2022. Such a goal emphasizes SpaceX's dedication to advancing reusability and cost-effectiveness in spaceflight.
The launch, designated as the Starlink Group 6-20 mission, took place on August 7 at 8:57 p.m. PT from the Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. A Falcon 9 rocket powered by the previously flown booster, identified as B1075-5, lifted off under foggy skies carrying a payload of 15 Starlink V2 Mini satellites destined for low Earth orbit.
This launch follows closely on the heels of another deployment, where SpaceX launched 22 Starlink V2 Mini satellites just a day before on Sunday, August 6. The company's ability to conduct rapid and successive launches highlights their commitment to pushing the boundaries of space access.

The Starlink V2 Mini satellites carried by the Falcon 9 are part of SpaceX's revolutionary project to create a global satellite internet network, intended to provide high-speed internet access to even the most remote and underserved areas around the world. This launch was the tenth in a series of V2 fleets launched to orbit, demonstrating the company's ongoing commitment to expanding their satellite constellation.
One of the unique aspects of this particular launch has raised questions among Starlink users and enthusiasts. SpaceX has consistently launched over 50 Starlink V1.5 satellites in a single mission, while the Starlink V2 Mini satellite launches have typically involved only around 15 to 22 satellites. This difference in numbers can be attributed to the upgraded second-generation V2 satellites being larger and heavier compared to their predecessors. Additionally, the V2 satellites boast two heavy solar arrays, enhancing their power-generation capabilities.
The successful recovery of the Falcon 9 booster once again showcased SpaceX's mastery of reusability. The booster executed a precise landing on the "Of Course I Still Love You" droneship approximately 9.5 minutes after liftoff. This achievement marked the fifth landing for this particular booster, which has previously supported a range of missions, including the SDA-0A mission and four Starlink deployments. SpaceX has aced a total of 215 orbital-class rocket landings to date, with 188 of them being reused boosters.

As the upper-stage of the Falcon 9 continued its journey to low Earth orbit, SpaceX enthusiasts and analysts eagerly awaited the deployment of the 15 Starlink V2 Mini satellites. The deployment occurred around 15 minutes after liftoff. SpaceX has now launched a total of 4,918 Starlink spacecraft to date, and approximately 4,575 of them are currently in Low Earth Orbit, according to data maintained by astronomer Jonathan McDowell.
