Malaysia is the 60th country in the world where SpaceX Starlink provides satellite Internet

On July 24, SpaceX’s Starlink division announced that Malaysia is the 60th country in the world where they beam Starlink satellite internet. The company is already providing service to over 1.5 million subscribers globally with approximately 4,519 Starlink satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

Starlink services were approved by the Malaysian government soon after SpaceX founder Elon Musk held a virtual meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on July 13. During the video conference, they discussed potential investments by Tesla in Malaysia and the invitation for SpaceX to operate Starlink in the Southeast Asian country, as previously reported by TESMANIAN. Minister Anwar shared photos of the virtual meeting which show that SpaceX delivered the first Starlink antenna to demonstrate its internet capabilities and the government likely used Starlink service to perform the video call with Mr. Musk (linked below).

SpaceX’s Starlink network has demonstrated to be reliable in the world’s most remote places where internet service was unreliable or completely unavailable. Starlink has been useful for emergency responders after natural disasters around the globe, as well as for civilian assistance in war-torn countries such as Ukraine amidst the war with Russia. Starlink is also connecting schools in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest and remote communities in the U.S. state of New Mexico where geography makes it hard to build terrestrial fiber-optic internet infrastructures.
