In a move aimed at revolutionizing internet connectivity across the African continent, Paratus Group has announced its signed a reseller agreement with SpaceX's Starlink division to become a distributor for their satellite internet services. This partnership is set to provide a game-changing solution for businesses and communities in Africa, particularly in remote areas where reliable internet access has been a longstanding challenge.
Under this agreement, Paratus Group will distribute Starlink's high-speed broadband services across Africa, initially launching in Mozambique, Kenya, Rwanda, and Nigeria, with plans to expand to more countries in the future as operating licenses are awarded to Starlink. This collaboration signifies a significant step forward in addressing the digital divide and bringing reliable connectivity to underserved regions of the continent.
Paratus Group’s service offerings now include Starlink service, alongside “primary enterprise connectivity, the replacement of 4G and VSAT, backup solutions, interim setups, and emergency services.” The company says that one of the key highlights of Starlink's network is its exceptional reliability, with an uptime of greater than 99.5% across all customers, even in challenging conditions, such as adverse weather and wire-cut outages.
Martin Cox, the Group Chief Commercial Officer of Paratus, expressed his enthusiasm for this transformative partnership, stating, "This agreement aligns perfectly with our vision of transforming Africa through exceptional digital infrastructure and customer service. It means we can offer industry sectors – such as land and offshore energy, mining, hospitality, education, healthcare, agriculture, and more – the reliable and constant connectivity they need to flourish, no matter how remote they are," they stated in a press release on September 22. ““The Starlink agreement further strengthens our LEO services offering across Africa and affirms our considerable capability and reach on the continent. It reinforces our goal to collaborate with entities that share our vision of transforming both African businesses and communities,” said Cox.
The Paratus Group, often referred to as "Africa's quality network," is actively investing in infrastructure and positioning itself as a key player in delivering integrated network services across the continent. With a presence in seven African countries, including Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zambia, Paratus has extended its satellite connectivity-focused services to over 35 African countries, connecting numerous customers throughout the continent.
