Tesla has begun shipping Model 3 with a heated steering wheel in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. According to the email, the feature will be available for a fee after installing a new update.
The refreshed 2021 Tesla Model 3 last year received some important changes that significantly improved the car ownership experience. One of the much-anticipated updates was the heated steering wheel. In early January 2021, several Tesla owners in China reported that the feature was already available to them, while US residents could see the option to activate the heated steering wheel in the App Store, but it didn't work at that time. Some European owners also reported that a voice command appeared in their vehicles to activate the heated steering wheel, but it also did not work.
Now, Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus owners in Europe say they have received an email from the company with some details about the heated steering wheel, which Drive Tesla Canada has also received a copy of. Tesla has confirmed that it will soon introduce a paid software update that will allow owners of this car model to turn on the heated steering wheel.
According to the email, Model 3 Standard Range built at Fremont after March 31, 2021, and at Giga Shanghai after January 1, 2021, and equipped with the appropriate equipment will be able to enable this feature through a paid software update due in the coming weeks. It should be kept in mind that some of the cars produced after these dates may still not have the appropriate equipment, Tesla warned.
According to the company's website, a heated steering wheel comes standard on Model 3 Long Range LR and Model 3 Performance. However, all vehicles will need new software version 2020.48 or later to access the feature.
