JSX, a charter airline that offers private point-to-point flights, became one of the first airlines to use SpaceX Starlink Internet. In early December, the company announced it started to provide free Starlink Wi-Fi to passengers in-flight on the first jet equipped with a Starlink terminal antenna. A month later, JSX CEO Alex Wilcox shared that JSX equipped half of its Embraer regional jets with SpaceX’s Starlink hardware to receive high-speed internet from the satellite constellation. 

“Starlink’s in-flight Wi-Fi service has been met by our customers with amazement and delight. It’s simply that good and incredibly easy to use,” Wilcox told Aviation International reporters this week. “As we continue to outfit our fleet with this industry-leading product, offered to our customers totally free of charge, the gap between the JSX experience and the rest of the industry will continue to widen,” they said. JSX plans to complete installing Starlink hardware to the other half of its aircraft fleet by the second quarter of 2023. JSX said that it has plans to purchase two new aircraft each month this year to expand its fleet. The company is providing free internet to its 30-seat Embraer ERJ aircraft during all flights. Currently, JSX provides charter service on 43 routes from airports located in 22 cities. The company also started to fly internationally to Cabo San Lucas in Baja California, Mexico. 

To date, SpaceX operates approximately 3,300 satellites in Low Earth Orbit that provide internet to over one million subscribers globally. "Starlink can deliver up to 350 Mbps to each plane, enabling all passengers to access streaming-capable internet at the same time. With latency as low as 20 ms [milliseconds], passengers can engage in activities previously not functional in flight, including video calls, online gaming, virtual private networks and other high data rate activities," according to SpaceX's Starlink.com/aviation website. The flat Starlink antenna is referred to as 'Aero Terminal', which "features an electronically steered phased array antenna, which enables new levels of reliability, redundancy and performance." The system is capable of providing high-speed internet service at any altitude. The Starlink Aero Terminal kit costs $150,000 USD, it includes an Aero Terminal, power supply, 2 wireless access points, and harnesses. The internet subscription ranges from $12,500 to $25,000 per month, depending on the aviation company's needs.
