The City Council of San Antonio, Texas, has approved an economic stimulus package for Saueressig Engineering, a lithium-ion battery electrode manufacturer, to build a new plant. According to earlier rumors, Saueressig is a supplier to Tesla and helps the company expand production lines for 4680 battery cells in Fremont, as well as to build them in Giga Berlin and Giga Texas.

In March, Saueressig Engineering, a division of Matthews International Corp, announced plans to build a plant on the east side of San Antonio. The economic incentives for construction were unanimously adopted at a city council meeting on April 1, according to the Austin Business Journal. It is reported that this will be the North American headquarters of Saueressig.

The incentive package will provide Saueressig with a 75% tax rebate on its property for a 10-year period starting in January 2022. In return, the company promised to hire 50 people with a minimum wage of $50,000 per year by 2025. The company also pledged to invest $9 million in property upgrades at 4338 Profit Drive, where it plans to open a store.

According to rumors in early November, Tesla has used/is using the services of the German engineering company Saueressig to expand production capacity at the Fremont battery facility. Several Saueressig teams were reported to be taking turns working at the Kato building to increase the production capacity of the Roadrunner project, which produces 4680 battery cells, to 10-gigawatt hours by the end of 2021. The Saueressig teams are also expected to work not only to expand the Fremont manufacturing facility but already have orders for additional battery systems for Giga Berlin and Giga Texas.

The construction of a new Saueressig plant near Giga Texas may also hint at cooperation between the companies. Tesla is building a giant factory near Austin, Texas that will produce the manufacturer's most popular cars, as well as new battery cells that will change the world of electric vehicles forever.

In June 2019, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS in Dresden developed a new battery cell production process that coats the electrodes of the energy storage cells with a dry film instead of liquid chemicals. In fact, this is what Tesla uses to create its new 4680 tabless cells. Saueressig has been listed as the company focused on improving this technology.
