SpaceX is increasing the size of its solar farm in Boca Chica, Texas by 30% to make its operations even greener. The company will add PV panels and Tesla Powerpacks that it has used on the project before.

According to documents obtained by CNBC from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, SpaceX is expanding the solar farm at its Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas to make its operations even greener. A draft biological conference and opinion (BCO) reveals that SpaceX is increasing the size of its solar farm, adding 1.7 acres, corresponding to an increase in the footprint of approximately 30%. Once the expansion is completed, the total footprint of the solar farm will be 7.1 acres. It is reported that the company has already begun clearing and planning the site for construction.

Solar is the best way to get energy, especially in areas where there is enough sunshine throughout the year. Focused, among other things, on improving the environmental situation in the world, Elon Musk's companies cooperate to transfer knowledge and experience to each other. SpaceX is already using solar panels and Tesla Powerpacks at its renowned launch complex in South Texas to power the facility's day-to-day operations.

As of the end of 2021, the SpaceX solar farm spanned 5.4 acres and supplied about 1 MW of electricity with a 3.87 MWh battery for energy storage, according to BCO. The new expansion will add 750 kilowatts of power for a total of 1.6 MWs of energy, and an additional battery system enables up to 8 MW-hours of storage. The project is expected to be completed in just over two years.

As before, SpaceX uses panels from Chinese manufacturer Trina Solar. At the same time, Tesla Powerpacks will be used for energy storage.
