SpaceX’s Starlink Coverage Map Now Details How Fast the Internet Is in Your Region

SpaceX has rolled out an update to its Starlink coverage map. The map, available on the Starlink website, now offers an insightful look into the expected internet speeds across the United States and other countries. The Starlink coverage map was originally designed to indicate when Starlink service would be available in a particular area, it has undergone a significant upgrade -- users can now not only determine if Starlink is available at their specific address but also gain valuable information about the estimated download, upload, and latency speeds for each location. This upgrade comes as SpaceX continues to refine its offerings and meet customer expectations.

To access this new feature, users need to simply click on the drop-down menu adjacent to the "Availability" icon on Starlink.com website. Hovering the cursor over a state reveals the anticipated speed ranges, helping users to assess the quality of service they can anticipate.

Starlink download speeds exhibit a range from as low as 30 Mbps to exceeding 220 Mbps (megabits per second) in various regions. The slower speeds on the map could be attributed to a high number of subscribers in a particular area that could be straining the network's capacity during peak hours. Notably, upload speeds remain relatively consistent across the nation, averaging between 8 Mbps and 18 Mbps. The company collected information on these approximate internet speeds for the “Standard” Starlink service during the peak hours of use for each location.

SpaceX has launched approximately 5,000 internet-beaming Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit that provide service to over 1.5 million subscribers globally (as of today). The company is actively working on deploying additional satellites into orbit to increase capacity in areas where there are many Starlink users. The upgraded coverage map from SpaceX not only enhances transparency but also empowers potential customers with valuable insights into what they can expect from Starlink's internet services. As the company continues to refine its technology and expand its reach, the map is expected to remain a valuable tool for individuals seeking high-speed, reliable internet access.
