Tesla Achieves Major Milestone: Supercharging Network Reaches 20,000 Stalls

Tesla's Supercharger Network allows Tesla drivers to charge their vehicles both conveniently and rapidly. This unique network is seen as a significant competitive advantage for the company as it enhances the customer experience and reduces EV range concerns. Tesla has now reached another milestone: The company now has 20,000 charging stalls around the world. And it's far from done expanding.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in May that the company continues to ramp up its Supercharger installations around the world. This bodes well for the growth of Tesla's vast charging network, which is already one of the most extensive and user-friendly in the industry. The timing of the Supercharger Network ramp also makes a lot of sense, since Tesla continues to steadily increase the production of Model 3 and Model Y.

In 2020, Tesla updated its Supercharger map, adding many new charge points, greatly expanding the amount of routes that are now covered by the fast-charging network. To date, more than 20,000 Tesla charging stalls around the world are officially open, yielding the best driving experience for its customers.

The top five countries where the Supercharger Network is being built most actively include the USA, China, Canada, France, and Germany. At the moment, active construction is also planned for the UK. After the completion of construction of all planned charging stations there, the country can move to fourth place in the overall ranking.

Tesla is far ahead of its competitors in fast-chargers, and this gives the company a great competitive advantage. In addition, Tesla owners can use third-party networks (which may require adapters), while Tesla Superchargers are exclusive to the company's vehicles.

Before the California automaker introduced to the world its first electric car, no one took electricity-powered cars seriously. Moreover, electric cars were the subject of ridicule, as in most cases they were associated with golf carts, and not with a fast and high-performance vehicle.

Tesla changed the worldview, and its own Supercharger Network rewrote the rules of the game. The goal of the company is to work like an organism, independent of the outside world and its rules. The Supercharger Network is one major organ in this increasingly vertically integrated system known as Tesla--a system that is quickly becoming one of the most impressive, innovative companies in the world. Yet it is just getting started.
