Tesla Giga Berlin Has Already Employed 9,000 People, Securing Title of the Largest Employer in Region

Tesla Giga Berlin has already employed 9,000 people and continues to recruit 200-300 employees every week, according to Brandenburg's economy minister. Thus, Tesla cemented its title as the largest employer in the region.

Tesla Giga Berlin continues to grow and already employs 9,000 people, Brandenburg Economics Minister Jörg Steinbach said at an IG Metall discussion event. According to him, the factory is hiring 200 to 300 people every week to eventually reach its goal of 12,000 employees for the Phase 1 expansion. But Tesla and its impact on the entire region and Germany will continue to grow as the manufacturer has already planned the next phase of expansion. “We look forward to the first applications for partial approval,” Steinbach said.

With Tesla providing thousands of jobs, the company is already the largest employer in the region, significantly improving the economic situation there. Subsequent expansions of the staff continue to secure this status for it. In fact, Tesla is the one who has the most influence on the economic situation in Brandenburg. The factory currently operates in two shifts, according to official information, but a third shift will be added soon, providing thousands more jobs.

Ultimately, Tesla plans to produce 500,000 vehicles per year in Phase 1 of the factory expansion, which will require about 12,000 employees. The factory started operations in March 2022 and will need some time to ramp up production and increase the number of employees to the desired level. In addition, the battery plant will also provide several thousand jobs. In June 2022, Giga Berlin reached a production capacity of 1,000 units per week and celebrated reaching 3,000 units per week in December 2022. Tesla is expected to periodically upgrade Giga Berlin to reach a production capacity of 500,000 units per year and above.
