China Newspaper Beijing News reported on Tuesday that Tesla has completed construction of a Supercharger factory in Shanghai. The project was officially completed on August 20, but test production will run until September 25. The acceptance testing will be completed between September 26 to October 30.

The Environmental Report from Tesla's Supercharger factory indicates that the project was officially launched on January 20 this year. In early February, the manufacturer announced that the first V3 piles had rolled off the assembly line, although it was not known if these were test samples. In the construction of a 54,000-square-foot factory was invested 42 million yuan ($6.4 million). The facility will be able to produce 10,000 chargers per year, and it is reported that most of the piles produced there will be the fast-charging V3 variant.

During the construction of the new factory, Tesla made several adjustments. For example, the company produced a line of charging pile junction boxes which were initially commissioned and then restructure to add a new core rewrapping line in the warehouse. The report also says it has cut the number of employees from 200 to 150 in line with pilot production needs and implemented a 22-hour work schedule that was 300 working days and a total production time of 6,600 hours per year.

The Supercharger factory will further contribute to the rapid development of Tesla's charging network in China. Having a wide network of charging stations is one of the most important criteria when choosing an electric vehicle, which not only attracts even more customers, but also gives the company an exclusive, competitive advantage in the NEV (New Energy Vehicle) market. China is a huge market for electric vehicles and especially for Tesla, which is very popular there. Tesla's team in China has significant plans to expand the charging infrastructure there to ensure the best ownership experience.
