On January 7, 2020, Tesla CEO Elon Musk attended the ceremony of delivery for the first MIC Model 3s to its owners. At that time, he announced that Tesla plans to create its own design and development center in China, where the company would create a car for the whole world.
“Something that would be super cool… so we’re going to do it… is to try to create a China design and engineering center to actually design an original car in China for worldwide consumption. I think this will be very exciting.”
According to Musk, some of the best works of art in the world were created in China, so he believes that projects created in China will also be popular around the world. The Chinese have always been distinguished by originality, speed, and intelligence, so China is a great place to develop, create, and implement the most original and unexpected solutions.
Tesla has now opened 11 design positions, hinting that a design and development center in China will be opening soon. And now we know these positions will be based in Beijing.

China is the largest auto market in the world, so creating a model that is tailored to the Chinese preferences is a very smart decision. And we wonder if the next big Tesla model will be the next smaller Tesla, a compact Model 2 or Model C?
