Tesla has launched the first deliveries of the long-awaited Model Y in Taiwan. The model has every chance of becoming the best-selling car in December, registering over 4,000 units.

Tesla has officially started deliveries of the Model Y to Taiwanese consumers today, December 5. The wait for Taiwan has been two years and eight months since the vehicle was first delivered in March 2020 in the USA. The start of deliveries was not possible from Giga Shanghai, as tensions with China led to a ban on the sale of cars that are made there. The start of deliveries from the USA was inexpedient. Therefore, Model Y arrived in Taiwan only after Tesla's German factory, Gigafactory Berlin, was able to reach a high enough production capacity to start serving the interests of a wider market.

Model Y has become an attractive option for many Taiwanese, especially after its price was lower than expected. The Long Range version costs NTD 2,299,900 (about $72,450), and the Performance version is NTD 2,599,900 (about $81,900). However, at the moment the car is only available in black and white colors and only with a black interior. Orders for Model Y were opened at the end of September.

According to data obtained by DDCAR, the total number of orders as of October 10 was more than 10,000, highlighting its high popularity in the Taiwanese market. Although there is no official data, there is information among the members of Tesla Club Taiwan that in December alone, the number of deliveries could be from 4,000 to 5,000 units. If this is true, then Tesla Model Y will become the best-selling car in Taiwan in December. At the moment, Tesla owns 80% of Taiwan's automarket, and with Model Y, its dominance will continue to increase.
