The popularity of Tesla cars continues to grow every year, and the main credit for this, at the moment, belongs to the Model 3. Having reached its all-time high sales in 2020, Model 3 became the 16th best-selling car in the world among all vehicles, including cars with internal combustion engines.
In 2020, Tesla reached a new stage of development, as its new factory in China began operations. Despite the fact that production at Giga Shanghai was only gaining momentum, and the work of its factories was overshadowed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the company stepped up to face its challenges and emerged victoriously. In the electric car market in 2020, Tesla became the absolute and undisputed leader, selling 499,535 vehicles, which is twice as many as its closest competitor. Model 3 also shone and became the best-selling electric vehicle. However, these are not the only victories that Tesla won in 2020.
The company's CEO, Elon Musk, has always sought to accelerate the world's transition to renewable energy, and electric vehicles were a big part of that plan. By being able to charge from renewable energy sources and not emit exhaust gases, electric cars on their own can solve a big part of the global problem of climate change. This is why Musk is committed to creating vehicles that are more preferred choices for buyers than ICE vehicles.
Production of Model 3 started out with big problems and was probably one of the most difficult times for the company, but it was worth it nonetheless. Model 3 became Tesla's weapon in the electric vehicle revolution. Combining high performance, quality, and price, the car has become a favorite of hundreds of thousands of people. As a result of monstrous sales, Model 3 entered the Top 20 best-selling cars in the world in 2020, which is an incredibly high achievement for a young company and a car that has been on the market for about three and a half years.
According to data from Focus2Move, published by Forbes, Tesla Model 3 was the 16th bestselling car in the world in 2020. In total, 439,760 units were sold in the past year, which also indicates a very rapid growth in sales compared to years earlier. Since launching sales in 2018, more than 800,000 units have been sold in total, half of which occurred in 2020. The superiority of Model 3 is also delightful as it is in a higher price segment than the other vehicles from the Top 20 and it is a luxury car.
Despite the fact that at the moment cars with internal combustion engines occupy a leading position, the entry of the Tesla Model 3 into the Top 20 demonstrates the general trend and market sentiment. In 2020, sales of electric vehicles began to skyrocket, and this will only increase in the coming years.
