Tesla cars continue to lead the California car market, taking first place in various categories and receiving the highest sympathy. Now Tesla Model Y has become the best-selling Luxury Compact SUV in California in the first nine months of 2021, while Model 3 has become the best-selling Near Luxury vehicle.

Electric cars are increasingly pervasive in people's daily lives and California has become one of the most striking examples. Thanks to the awareness and excitement of local residents, the laws of the state, and the presence of Tesla’s electric car factory there, Californians have a great love for electric cars. In the first nine months of 2021, electric vehicle registrations increased about 82% year-over-year and accounted for 11.6% of the automotive market, according to a report by the California New Car Dealers Association (CNCDA). BEV registrations alone increased by more than 68% to 123,244, taking 8.3% of the market share.

As always, Tesla cars have stood out in particular from the general list of cars sold in California. For the first nine months of the year, Tesla Model Y is the best-selling Luxury Compact SUV with 42,624 registrations, more than three times the sales of its closest competitor and the combined sales of the four best-selling vehicles in the segment. Thanks to strong sales, Model Y captured 40.9% of the market share in the segment for this period.

Tesla Model 3 also continues to shine in its segment. The sedan is the best-selling Near Luxury vehicle in the state for the first three quarters of 2021. During this period, 34,995 vehicles were sold, surpassing the combined sales of the top four best-selling vehicles in the segment.

Thus, Tesla cars are steadily rising to new positions in the general list of automotive sales in California, gradually replacing sales of cars with internal combustion engines. So, in the general list of sales of all cars in the state, Tesla Model Y is ranked fifth while Model 3 is in tenth place. Tesla demonstrates how electric cars are replacing gasoline cars, revolutionizing the automotive market.
