Tesla Model Y is the winner of Cars.com's Best Electric Vehicle of 2022 Award because it has a number of important advantages over its competitors.
Cars.com has evaluated 2022’s electric vehicles, regardless of when introduced or when last updated. Beyond overall excellence, the marketplace has paid special attention to aspects that many electric vehicles stumble over, such as ride quality and charging speed. According to the study, the 2022 Tesla Model Y is the Best Electric Vehicle of 2022.
"As EVs rapidly move from a fringe movement to the mainstream, this is the perfect award to kick off our Best of 2022 awards week. The quality and quantity of competitive vehicles poised to enter the EV space warrants expert scrutiny and independent comparison, and that's what we do best at Cars.com," said Joe Wiesenfelder, executive editor and head of EV insights for Cars.com. "Tesla is an electric car innovator, and the Model Y reflects that leadership with its efficiency, charging capability, range and options. It checks a lot of boxes for consumers who have been considering making the jump to an EV."
The inaugural Cars.com Best Electric Vehicle Award comes at a time when the availability of electric vehicles for the mass market is nearing a tipping point. General adoption is still a long way off because some accessibility issues such as affordability, fast public charging, range awareness and more have not been resolved. Despite this, new electric vehicles continue to appear, which is why it is so important to choose the best option.
From the available list, Cars.com selects Tesla Model Y as their 2022 Best Electric Vehicle. Model Y has the distinction of being a consumer-friendly electric vehicle as well as a roomy crossover SUV with up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity. The compact SUV has a long range and also provides useful efficiency information to educate drivers on how to increase their remaining range. Tesla's DC Supercharger network is also wider than other carriers and, as a result of the study, proved to be more reliable than others.
When charging, Model Y efficiency translates into more miles per hour for a given amount of power than many electric vehicles. In addition, the electric car can precisely regulate charging to work with various household electrical circuits. It comes with a 120- and 240-volt mobile charger as standard, and Tesla adds a J1772 adapter to interface its proprietary connector with third-party chargers.
Cars.com notes that Model Y rides more like a sports car. Although the car already sports fast acceleration, it can get even quicker acceleration for an additional $2,000, via an over-the-air update. OTA updates are another very significant advantage of Tesla Model Y.
