Tesla Model Y became the best-selling SUV in China in September 2022. Thanks to the active increase in production, the compact SUV has every chance of becoming the best-selling car in the world in the coming months.

The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) today released a list showing automakers' sales results by model last month. The data showed that Tesla Model Y became the best-selling SUV in China in September. Last month, 46,694 vehicles were sold in the domestic market, which was the highest result. Giga Shanghai managed to increase its production significantly by upgrading its production lines in July and August. Tesla is reportedly not planning to run the factory at full capacity before the end of the year, although this is just a rumor.

In second place among the best-selling SUVs was BYD Song with 45,934 units. This is only 760 units less than Model Y, which is not bad, but not enough to get first place. In third place was Haval H6 with 16,887 units, a very significant gap from both Tesla and BYD. In fourth place is Changan CS75 with 16,849 sales. Closing out the top 5 is BYD Yuan Plus with 16,701 units sold.
