  • Tesla aims to begin expanding Giga Berlin in the first half of 2024.
  • A company representative announced the intention on the sidelines of a public debate about expansion plans, according to a report.

A Tesla representative said that the company intends to begin expanding Giga Berlin in the first half of 2024, said on the sidelines of a public debate about expansion plans, according to rbb24. Tesla plans to expand in several stages. In the first half of 2024, the first modernization of the existing factory workshop will be carried out. The company also wants to build a water recycling plant. Plans for the coming years include a second production workshop and a battery recycling plant.

Residents, authorities, and Tesla representatives in Erkner are currently discussing the company's plans. Several environmental associations are absent here, including the Strausberg-Erkner Water Association. They criticize the fact that Tesla changed the documents several times after publication. However, the State Department for Environmental Protection considers this legal. According to it, this is simply a matter of adjustments to numbers, corrections or clarifications on the part of the company.

The main point of contention was water consumption. However, as real data show, Tesla is still far from even the quota that was initially agreed upon. Initially, a quota of up to 1.8 million cubic meters of water per year was agreed upon with Tesla. According to Environment Minister Axel Vogel, last year the company used only 0.3 million cubic meters. In addition, he said that 0.3 million cubic meters have been used in 2023 so far. This highlights that water consumption per vehicle is significantly lower than expected.
