Tesla Removes Model Y Standard Range Plus from Configurator Worldwide & Reduces Price on Long Range

Tesla has changed the order configurator on its website. Now it is no longer possible to order the Model Y Standard Range Plus worldwide, and the price for the Long Range version has been reduced.

Early morning on February 21st, several members of the Tesla community noticed changes on the manufacturer's website. Now, when ordering Model Y, customers are only offered Long Range and Performance, while the Standard Range Plus has disappeared from order configurators around the world.

Just a few days ago, Tesla had slashed prices for its Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV base variants. The price for Model Y Standard Range was decreased by $2,000 to $39,990 (from $41,990). It seems strange that after such a price reduction, this Model Y option is now completely unavailable for order. Perhaps there was some kind of failure on the company's website or the company changed its policy and therefore sought to sell all the Model Y Standard Range produced as soon as possible.

It seems that such a decision could be logical, and correspond to what the CEO of the company Elon Musk wrote earlier. In mid-July 2020, when asked if Tesla would produce the Model Y Standard Range, he wrote "No." Musk argued that the range for this model would be unacceptably low, that is, <250 EPA miles.

In another tweet, he wrote that prices for Long Range have been reduced and that the company will later offer a single-motor Long Range variant in order to increase affordability while still keeping a great product.

Now, after Model Y Standard Range has disappeared from the configurator on the site, the Long Range version is getting a price cut that fits perfectly with the company's earlier plan. Perhaps after some time, we will receive more information from Tesla that can further clarify the situation.
