Tesla Giga Berlin signed contracts with the first five students to study at the factory starting September 1. The number of students will grow significantly in the coming years.

In mid-June, Recruitment Leader for Giga Berlin at Tesla, Tobias Marmann, announced via LinkedIn that the company is providing both training and dual training positions, supported by a regional partner university. The main criterion for admission is having a qualifying degree from high school/college or a high school diploma.

The company received many applications, but only a few were awarded the contract. According to the Ostbrandenburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK), five training contracts have been signed so far. Two students are training to become IT specialists, three are trained in warehouse logistics. It is also likely that two dual-study students will also undertake an internship at Tesla's factory soon. According to the IHK, from 2022, about 150 apprentices should be trained in about ten industrial and technical specialties.

The local employment agency has confirmed that it has received many applications for the opportunity to study at Tesla. Jochem Freyer, the managing director of the agency, said there have been many applications from young people from local educational institutions, and there has been a lot of national interest related to Tesla's image. “Among the graduates of East Brandenburg schools, there were many young people who applied. But there was also a lot of national interest. It certainly has something to do with Tesla's image among young people, too,” he said.

The employment agency believes Tesla's popularity among job seekers is so high that this should make some companies in the region worry about young talent. Freyer said that this is certainly very good for Brandenburg. Tesla wants to increase its student population to 150 in the coming years, making it the largest private teaching company between Berlin and the Polish border.

The Minister for Economic Affairs, Labor and Energy of Brandenburg, Jörg Steinbach, also welcomes Tesla’s offering of training opportunities in the early stages of work in its factory. "The young people who are starting their training at Tesla today are a good example that Brandenburg has very attractive on-the-job training opportunities," he said.
