Elon Musk said he exited Twitter's top lawyer for a “possible role in suppression of information important to the public dialogue.” Former General Counsel for the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation Jim Baker is featured in the first set of Twitter docs published this past weekend.

Jim Baker, Twitter's deputy general counsel, has been fired over his handling of information, Elon Musk said in a tweet. On December 6, in response to a tweet by Matt Taibbi about accessing the so-called “Twitter Files,” he wrote, “In light of concerns about Baker's possible role in suppression of information important to the public dialogue, he was exited from Twitter today.”

Musk's comment was linked to Baker's involvement in documents released over the weekend that included messages related to the decision to block access to a New York Post article about Hunter Biden's laptop. Taibbi, who obtained access to the documents, made them public in a long Twitter thread on December 3. The journalist said in a separate tweet that Baker was fired for “vetting the first batch of ‘Twitter Files’ without knowledge of new management.” Musk later clarified that he only learned of Baker's vetting of the Twitter files on Sunday.

The story with the laptop of Hunter Biden, the son of the current US president, Joe Biden, occurred on the eve of the 2020 presidential election. Prior to Musk's takeover of Twitter, the platform claimed to have blocked access to the New York Post article in accordance with its “hacked materials” policy, but materials disclosed by Twitter 2.0 have shown that this is not the case.
