Marlink will integrate SpaceX Starlink to its 'hybrid network' to connect Thenamaris vessels at Sea

Marlink, a company specializing in smart network and digital solutions, has announced its partnership with Thenamaris Group in its digital business transformation. Thenamaris Group is a global manager of a modern and high-specification ocean-going fleet, which consists of a total of 88 vessels. This includes crude oil and products tankers, bulk carriers, containerships, LNG carriers, and LPG carriers.

Marlink will integrate SpaceX Starlink service into a smart “hybrid network” that will operate onboard sea-going vessels. Thenamaris is already utilizing Marlink's “Sealink VSAT” with L-Band backup for a portion of its fleet. As part of its hybrid network digital transformation, the company plans to incorporate new Low Earth Orbit (LEO) services into its vessels, which includes SpaceX Starlink. Marlink has developed the concept of "Sealink NextGen," which combines geostationary Earth orbit (GEO) VSAT and mobile satellite services (MSS) backup with the specific mix of LEO or medium Earth orbit (MEO) connectivity, 5G, and digital solutions required by customers. All of these services will be managed and controlled through Marlink's "Xchange platform." The company said in a press release that the combined integration of these services will create a blended network for Thenamaris, offering an improved user experience for crews at sea. Marlink will also provide network performance management tools, ensuring that vessel managers have continuous visibility of the fleet.

“The success of Thenamaris is a testament to our philosophy that safety and quality permeate every aspect of our operations, and that every member of our team is a trusted partner. To be a leader in commercial and technical ship management requires us to constantly be exploring new ways and utilizing cutting-edge technology, to improve efficiency and enhance life onboard ship. It is believed that Marlink’s hybrid approach, now incorporating Starlink, will enable us to achieve these objectives. This belief drives the decision to test the new SATCOM architecture,” stated George Tsivgoulis, Electrical Supervisor at Thenamaris.

“Marlink continues to play a key role in helping industry leaders like Thenamaris take the next steps on their digital journey and accrue the benefits of new technology to support that transformation. We see Sealink NextGen as key to helping vessel operators and managers unlock the benefits of digitalisation and improve connectivity for their crews,” said Marlink President of Maritime services Tore Morten Olsen.
