Tesla China denies rumors of using any new types of batteries in cars manufactured at Giga Shanghai. The company was forced to do so amid recent rumors about using CATL M3P batteries for Model 3.

Last week, Chinese news agency Sina Tech, citing two people familiar with the situation, reported that Tesla Giga Shanghai is about to launch new Model 3s with a CATL M3P battery. This change was supposed to provide an increase in range of at least 10%, which was a very attractive option. Therefore, the news gained wide circulation, and particularly encouraged consumers.

Amid this rumor, Tesla China was forced to intervene to refute the published information. On August 23, the company's official customer service account in China posted an announcement on Weibo clarifying the situation. The company wrote that it currently has no plans to use 4680 batteries or any other new batteries for car production at Giga Shanghai. Tesla also said that the information that its factory in China is going to make changes in its cars is completely a rumor that is deliberately misleading consumers. In addition, the company said it would hold those behind the rumors accountable if those people become exposed.

Tesla China also reminded the public that no matter what type of battery is used in its vehicles, the products they provide to customers always meet the company's strict product requirements, such as high performance, safety, and battery life.
