Tesla Model Y Is Norway’s Best-Selling Car in June, Leaving Competitors in the Dust

Tesla Model Y became the best-selling car in June in Norway. Model Y had strong sales and left the competition in the dust, selling twice as many cars as its closest competitor, Volkswagen ID.4.

Tesla was able to bounce back after shutting down Giga Shanghai for three weeks in April and a difficult recovery the following month. Since mid-May, the factory has been actively producing thousands of vehicles to ship worldwide. Most of them were sent to Europe, which had a positive impact on the manufacturer's sales.

The tireless work of the Giga Shanghai team, supported by supplies from Giga Berlin, has led to Tesla's strong sales figures in Norway. Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car in the country in June, well outperforming its competitors. The COVID-19 lockdown in Shanghai, as well as Russia's attack on Ukraine, has had dire consequences for the entire auto industry, as seen in last month's sales results.

Tesla Model Y deservedly took first place in sales in Norway in June with 2,533 units, capturing a 17% market share, according to OFV data. In second place, 1,289 units behind Tesla, is Volkswagen ID.4, with 1,244 sold units. Skoda Enyaq is in third place with 1,057 units and a 7.1% market share. BMW iX is in fourth place with 475 sales and a 3.2% market share. Closing out the top 5 is Toyota RAV4 with 455 units sold and 3.1% market share.

In June, 14,901 new passenger cars were registered in Norway, which is 5,491 fewer (-26.9%) than in June 2021. Meanwhile, the share of zero-emission vehicles continued to rise in June and accounted for 78.7% of the market, up from 64.7% in the same month last year.
