Tesla has reopened reservations for the next generation Roadster worldwide. This is a positive sign, indicating preparations for order fulfillment in 2023, as announced by Elon Musk.

After initially unveiling the Tesla Roadster in 2017, the company was forced to put orders on hold as it focused on building factories and ramping up production of its more affordable models that the market needed. Since Tesla's goal was to increase the number of electric vehicles on the roads globally, the first priority was focused here. Today, now that Tesla has reached a production capacity of more than one million vehicles per year and put millions of vehicles on the road, it is time to produce a more expensive car that is not available to a wide range of consumers.

The next-generation Roadster is a high-tech masterpiece, which takes driving pleasure to the next level. Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen have teased consumers several times about the features the car will have. Despite Tesla not starting production of the car, the company has not stopped working on Roadster and its improvements, according to von Holzhausen on Spike's Car Radio podcast.

Holzhausen also noted that the delay in production has a positive side for end users. He said that while the car was being developed, the Tesla team learned a lot and created new technologies that are ultimately much better. For example, the Plaid platform has yielded a lot of knowledge and experience, which will lead to the production of a car that is even better than the original Roadster 2.0 idea.

"We're working on the Roadster. I wish we were working faster, but I have to also say that in the time that we have been developing it, we have also been learning a lot, like Plaid is a great learning platform, that all those experiences will make its way back into a much better Roadster than had we launched right after when we debuted it."

In addition, Holzhausen confirmed that the Roadster will have a unique property for cars, namely the ability to fly. "It will be an amazing, exciting flying machine," he said.

Production of the Roadster is scheduled for 2023, according to Musk's statement during the Giga Texas grand opening event. During the Q2 2020 Earnings Call, the head of the company said that its production will be carried out at a factory in Fremont, California. The reopening of orders for the Roadster around the world indicates that Tesla is confident that it will be able to start fulfilling them within the specified timeframe.
