Tesla begins sales of Model S and Model X in China with the announcement of prices. Deliveries will start in Q2 2023.

On Friday Tesla announced prices in China for the new Model S and Model X, which will ship from the US. Demonstration vehicles have been in the country for several weeks now, traveling through Tesla showrooms in various cities. The locals showed great interest in these new models and were very eager to order them, which was not possible until today.

Tesla Model S is available in China in two versions: a basic version with two motors and all-wheel drive, and a Plaid version with three motors and all-wheel drive. Model S starts at RMB 789,900 (about $115,400) and the Model S Plaid starts at RMB 1,009,900 (about $147,600), according to information provided by Tesla on Weibo.

Model X is also available in China in two versions: a basic version with two motors and all-wheel drive, and a Plaid version with three motors and all-wheel drive. Model X starts at RMB 879,900 (about $128,600) and Model X Plaid starts at RMB 1,039,900 (about $151,900).

Tesla did not mention on Weibo when deliveries of these models to China will begin. However, information on the website indicates that the expected delivery date for all Model S and Model X versions in China is the second quarter of 2023. The vehicles are highly anticipated in the local market, so a major wave of deliveries is expected if Tesla's production capacity allows it.

On October 11, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced the list of new energy vehicles (NEV) that are exempt from vehicle purchase tax, Model S and Model X were included, which is good news for Chinese consumers.
