Twitter Is an 'incredibly powerful tool' to Drive Tesla Demand, Says Elon Musk

Twitter is an “incredibly powerful tool” to stimulate Tesla demand, says Elon Musk. He urged car companies to make their Twitter accounts interesting, informative, and entertaining, which would also help boost their sales.

Twitter is one of the most popular social media platforms and has about 396.5 million users worldwide. According to data published by Elon Musk in the end of 2022, Twitter has about 259.4 million daily active users, which means that they always come back to see what others are tweeting about. In just a few months, the platform has evolved significantly and has become the #1 news app in Apple Store in the US. According to the Social Shepherd data, Twitter is indeed used by a large number of users to get news (48%). However, 33% of users use it to follow brands and companies, which is revealing.

On January 25, during the Tesla Q4 2022 Earnings Call, Elon Musk said that Twitter is “an incredibly powerful tool” to drive Tesla’s demand. This came in response to some investors believing that Musk's tweets are creating negative publicity for Tesla. The company's CEO does make headlines often, especially after he bought Twitter, but it is far too frivolous to claim that this only creates negative publicity for Tesla.

While some Twitter users may indeed strongly disagree with Musk and refuse to buy the company's products, others may be drawn to what he writes and consider purchasing the company's products accordingly. Musk has over 127 million Twitter followers, and while some of them do disagree with him, most of the others are his strong supporters, who, if not already owners of Tesla products, may consider purchasing them as soon as it is possible for them. Musk's constant interaction with his followers is undoubtedly a powerful tool that helps increase interest in the company and its products, and grows brand awareness.

With a proven track record of using Twitter as a powerful customer acquisition tool, Musk has also encouraged other auto companies to take advantage of it. He pointed out that when brand Twitter accounts are interesting, informative, and entertaining, sales increase, as has been the case with Tesla for all these years.

“I really encourage all kinds of automotive companies to use their Twitter accounts in ways that are interesting, informative and entertaining and it will help drive sales just as it has with Tesla,” Musk said.
