The activity of Elon Musk, who daily transforms the lives of all mankind, is extremely important for the survival of humans as a species. For the search for solutions to the existential crisis, for the embodiment of the opportunities and dangers of the era of technological titans, for carrying out the most daring and destructive transformations of society, the head of Tesla and SpaceX became TIME’s 2021 Person of the Year.

For nearly a century, TIME has named Person of the Year—the person or group that influenced the previous 12 months the most. Person of the Year is an indicator of influence, and Musk has a huge impact on life on Earth and possibly life beyond. TIME says that in 2021, Musk became not only the richest person in the world, but arguably the richest example of massive change in our society.

Despite the fact that now in our era there are other people who have a significant impact on the life of mankind, in this rare group of people, Musk is in his own class. He sees his mission in solving the most formidable global problems, while disrupting many industries over two decades, writes TIME. Musk is transforming the automotive industry by trying to replace the internal combustion engine (ICE) car with electric ones, the space industry by trying to make life multi-planetary, and many other directions in our present and future: infrastructure construction, artificial intelligence, neurotechnology, payment systems, and much more.

According to TIME, Musk's largest terrestrial impact so far has been with Tesla. 2021 was the year that electric cars went mainstream, and Tesla turned into a trillion-dollar company, one of the few in the world in any industry. Musk almost single-handedly created the electric vehicle market, long before anyone else saw what the world needed and created a demand for electric vehicles, making them so cool that they surpassed ICE cars.

Musk is also transforming the entire space industry, creating super-competition to the previously dominant Russia. Now his SpaceX is the world commercial leader in the creation and launch of rockets and crews. The company makes space rockets reusable, as airplanes. NASA has selected Musk's space company to build a spacecraft that will send astronauts to the moon for the first time in more than 50 years. In addition, the brilliant engineer plans to bring the first people to Mars in the coming years.
