It seems that the construction of Giga Shanghai's Phase 2 is almost complete and test production of China-made Model Y has begun. Yesterday, near the buildings of Phase 2, was spotted a body in white Model Y.

Body in white (BIW) is the stage in automobile manufacturing in which a car body's frame has been joined together, that is, before painting and before the motor, chassis sub-assemblies, or trim (glass, door locks/handles, seats, upholstery, electronics, etc.) have been integrated into the structure.

In early November, Tesmanian discovered that Tesla Giga Shanghai has submitted applications to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for the upcoming China-made Model Y production approval. If Tesla submitted this application, it means that the line for the production of Model Y is installed and is in the commissioning phase.

A few days after that, Model Y was seen on the territory of the factory. Despite the fact that the car had a camouflage coating, the angle of view helped to see the vehicle well and make sure that it was indeed Model Y. WU WA/YouTube reports that it received information that the Model Y recently passed road tests on one of the roads near the factory. This is clearly referring to the car that was spotted wrapped in camouflage.

Also in the new WU WA video, we spotted a BIW Model Y, pushed by workers from one Phase 2 building to another. This is an accurate confirmation that vehicles are already in production, although this is most likely just test production.

Soon the first customers will receive their highly anticipated Model Y, which marks Tesla's next milestone of winning over hearts in the Chinese market. Tesla has become one of the most coveted cars in the country, and the Model Y will only further expand and deepen this interest.
