Other people also saw Semi-trucks full of Tesla Powerpacks in South Australia heading towards the Hornsdale Power Reserve. Is Tesla on the cusp of announcing a major expansion of its battery deal with the South Australian government? HyperChange in his Youtube video expresses his assumptions about this.

 

It seems that the large Tesla battery in South Australia - officially known as the Hornsdale Power Reserve is set to grow significantly larger. This could add ~$100M in revenue for Tesla, and validate the company's technology for grid-scale energy storage.

The Hornsdale Power Reserve is already the world's largest lithium-ion battery - 100 MW/129 MWh. Hornsdale Power Reserve has proven itself in improving energy security and lowering prices, which has changed many of the ideas about the future of the energy system.

 

According to HyperChange, there are 37 such deliveries, which indicates that up to 500 power units can be delivered to a site adjacent to the Hornsdale wind farm north of Adelaide.

Some sources suggest a potential increase in power reserve in Hornsdale of about 50% or more, depending on the configuration chosen.

The battery built by Tesla was officially commissioned in 2017. The demand for electricity in Australia is extremely high. In recent years, South Australia has experienced serious energy problems.

The head of Tesla, Elon Musk, promised to build a battery in 100 days - this promise he fulfilled.

"History is happening before our eyes," said local administration chief Jay Weatherill. The giant battery is designed to prevent incidents that took place when the whole state was left without electricity.

The battery in South Australia is just one of several such projects in which Tesla is involved.

Smaller energy storages, designed to provide uninterrupted and stable power supplies, operate in southern California, New Zealand, the UK, Japan, Hawaii and several Pacific islands. Some luxury hotels located on islands and inaccessible places also use small energy packs.

Tesla’s many years of experience developing automotive lithium-ion batteries came in handy when creating large batteries for energy storage systems. The batteries used in energy storages intended for electric networks are not quite the same as in Tesla cars, but they have common elements and design solutions with them.

As we can see, Tesla's company is consistent in its intentions and actions. Tesla copes with its goal of: accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.
