Tesla cars and their camera video recordings have helped solve many crimes in various countries. This time, an owner of Model 3 helped find a criminal who was shooting at the windows of moving cars.

A wave of crimes has hit Southern California. The perpetrator shot at the windows of moving cars with BBs or pellets on freeways in Riverside, Orange, and Los Angeles counties, abc7 reports. The first case was registered in mid-April and since then there have been about 100 reports to the police. However, after the perpetrator chased and shot at the Tesla Model 3, he was caught. Thanks to recordings from Tesla cameras, the police were able to identify, find, and catch the criminal who is accused of committing this series of serious crimes.

Charges with three counts of attempted murder and three counts of assault on a person causing great bodily injury were filed Friday against a 34-year-old Jesse Leal Rodriguez, according to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office. Reports suggest it is unclear if he acted alone or if he was responsible for other shootings, but since he was taken into custody, there have been no new shootings reported.

The police stressed that the culprit was caught thanks to high-tech Tesla vehicles that are equipped with cameras. Thanks to the video, they identified the make and model of the criminal's car, which was soon found and taken into custody. If Rodriguez is found guilty in this case, he could face up to 57 years in prison. The hearing is scheduled for June 1.

Rodriguez' criminal history included convictions for carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in public and participating in criminal street gang activities. In April 2013, he was sentenced to 32 months in state prison. He was released on parole in January 2018.

Tesla cameras have assisted in solving many crimes committed while driving, which is why we can safely say that the more Teslas there are on the road, the more crimes that can be solved. Owning a Tesla car can also increase the confidence of owners that, should a crime be committed against them on the road, they will be more likely to prove it and find the culprit. The Californian car manufacturer builds its vehicles with the customer in mind.
