Tesla Giga Texas becomes a manufacturing innovation hub. The vehicle code showed that the factory had begun production of Model Y with hardware 4 (HW4).
On Thursday, the first Model Y cars were spotted fitted with the distinctive red HW4 cameras in a delivery lot. The cars were seen in various locations in the US and were interspersed with Model Y equipped with the HW3. However, this was a clear signal that Tesla had begun production of Model Y with HW4.
Data discovered by TeslaInfo (via Tesla North) showed information on one of the vehicles. According to the data, it was produced at Giga Texas. The factory became Tesla's hub for manufacturing innovation. Here, the company first began producing cars with a structural battery pack with 4680 battery cells. Also, production of Cybertruck will soon begin here, which has no analogs in the industry.
The Model Y discovered by TeslaInfo was in transit for delivery in California. Its Autopilot version says “AP HW4.” According to data provided by TeslaInfo, Tesla's site code also states “AP04,” confirming the vehicle is fitted with HW4 hardware.
At the moment, Tesla produces Model S and Model X with HW4, and now Model Y has joined them. The new hardware is also expected to be installed on the updated Model 3, which could start shipping in the third quarter of 2023.
