Tesla Is Working on Digitalization & Will Continue to Invest in R&D in China, Says Elon Musk

Tesla CEO Elon Musk spoke at the 2021 World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China, where he made several highlights about the company, its achievements, working methods, and future plans. According to the head of the company, Tesla intends to continue active digitalization and will continue to invest and finance efforts in R&D in China.

During the 2021 World Internet Conference, Tesla CEO Elon Musk spoke about the company and raised awareness among people and the Chinese government towards its work. He touched upon the issues of digitalization, robots, AI, and the company's plans for development in the country.

Musk emphasized that many people believe that AI is the ultimate digital technology application that will push human society towards a digital civilization. He believes there is a high likelihood that AI will serve and be served by humans in a symbiotic relationship that Tesla's chief hopes will benefit both digital and biological intelligence. Musk mentioned humanoid robots, whose existence would make physical work a choice. "AI-powered robots will help people eliminate dangerous, repetitive, and boring tasks," he said. The head of the company said that most likely, Intelligent & Connected Vehicles is the next generation of Internet devices that will change our lives. He stressed that Tesla is the largest robotics company in the world because their vehicles are like semi-intelligent robots on wheels.

Musk recalled that Tesla is developing full self-driving vehicles with practical, vision-based AI, including chip development on the inference level and on the training level. He stressed that the company is convinced that autonomous driving can be achieved entirely by vision neural nets. "After all, humans are running a biological vision neural net in order to drive, so it makes sense that computers would be able to drive using a silicon cameras neural nets," Musk said.

According to the observations of Tesla's CEO, China spends a lot of resources and efforts applying the latest digital technologies in different industries including the automobile industry, making China a global leader in digitalization. Musk said Tesla will continue to expand its investments and efforts in R&D in China, as it hopes to contribute to building a digitized future of shared benefits, responsibilities, and governance. He also expressed his belief that this conference will provide great opportunities for exchanges among regulators, business leaders, and academics.
