Tesla Plans to Bring the Convenience of Mobile Service to Norway, Likely to Arrive in Next Year

Tesla has significantly expanded the range of services offered in Norway. Apart from service centers and stores, Tesla Norway may soon offer a mobile service.

"Mobile service is a strategically important tool for us and we want to offer it in most of our service centers," says Even Sandvold Roland, who leads Tesla's communications in Norway.

This decision follows the adoption of a new workshop regulation, which came into force on November 1. According to it, it is now possible to carry out maintenance and some types of repairs "on-site" using mobile devices from the workshop.

Tesla currently has 19 service centers. Most of them work within the same premises as their branded stores. The addition of the new service will significantly improve the product ownership experience for many owners in Norway.

At the moment, there is no exact timeframe for when exactly the mobile service will become available. However, Roland said they will likely be available across most of Norway within the next year.

Tesla was one of two participants who received permission from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration to test mobile workshops. Test operations took place in the Oslo area.

However, the requirements for a company to be able to implement a mobile service has been set too high. Technicians working on a mobile service team currently are required to have a trade certificate, which is redundant.

“The new workshop rules are a step in the right direction, but we are disappointed with the trade certification requirements for technicians who will be doing this service,” says Roland.

The fact is, work in a regular workshop does not require a trade certificate, and the tasks solved by a mobile service crew are usually much simpler. Tesla has referred the review to the Norwegian Public Roads Authority, Roland said.

Once the mobile service is indeed launched, all cases for its operation will be considered individually, depending on the type of work that needs to be done, and on what equipment will be in place at the time the request is received.

The mobile service will be an important offering for car owners living some distance from the nearest Tesla services. For them, this service offering is likely to be more important than for customers living in more central areas.
