It's time to have some fun. And what will bring us fun? Right - a good match between the Tesla Model 3 Performance and Porsche 911 Carrera S.
Tesla’s premium budget car, the Tesla Model 3 Performance, was competed against the Porsche 911 Carrera S in a series of drag races, rolling acceleration tests and braking tests by Matt Watson, from Carwow UK.
Matt is the owner of both cars. In this race, he drove a Tesla Model 3, and his friend was the driver of the Porache 911 Carrera S. The cars are very different. Tesla is an electric vehicle, while Porsche is a gas powered car.
The Tesla Model 3 Performance is an All-Wheel Drive four-door electric sedan, with dual electric motors on each axle with a combined output of 490 hp (366 kW) and 487 lb-ft (660 Nm) of torque. The car weighs 4,063 pounds and it accelerates from zero to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds.
The Porsche 911 Carrera S its 3.0L twin-turbo flat-six can produce up to 450 hp (336 kW) and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque, sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Porsche weighs around 3,498 pounds and has the twin turbochargers, which allows it to reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
In terms of horsepower, both cars are slightly similar. However, the Tesla Model 3 Performance produces more torque. But the Model 3 weighs 4,063 pounds while the Porsche weighs around 3,498 pounds, which is a 565-pound weight advantage the Porsche has.
In the first quarter of a mile, the Tesla Model 3 Performance won by winning a time of 11.8 seconds, while Porsche completed it in 12.1 seconds.
Before the second race, the Porsche driver warmed up the car's tires for better performance. The trick worked when 911 showed a perfect start and managed to overcome a quarter mile in 11.5 seconds, ahead of Model 3 Performance, which came in 11.8 seconds.
During the third quarter-mile race, the Tesla Model 3 barely lost as the Porsche came in just 0.1 seconds quicker than the Model 3 at 11.7 seconds.
Next up was the acceleration test. Matt wanted to see which car among the two could reach 110 mph first from a cruising speed of 50 mph. Tesla Model 3 won this test.
The last experiment was a braking test. Here, both the cars had to brake from 70 mph from a particular point. Both vehicles stopped at almost the same distance, but the Tesla Model 3 Performance technically won
The Model 3 Performance is a simple, fast and environmentally friendly car, but it made an excellent competition with the gas powered sports car and won. Particular attention should be paid to the difference in price. Tesla Model 3 Performance costs about $57,000, while the price of the Porsche 911 Carrera S starts at about $115,000. The difference in price is more then doubled. You can also add fuel savings here, and you should have no doubt about which car is really superior.
