Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling vehicle in the UK in June 2021. The data show Tesla's success in meeting its goal of replacing ICE vehicles with electric vehicles.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) released June sales data on July 5 and announced that Tesla Model 3 was the UK's best-selling vehicle. The Californian manufacturer registered 5,468 vehicles, surpassing not only its electric rivals but all vehicles available in the country's market, even with internal combustion engines. Tesla's superiority is confirmed by the fact that Model 3 sales are higher than that of any other car, even cheaper models. Despite the fact that such a spike in sales is typical for Tesla in the last month of each quarter, due to the delivery time, it shows a strong shift in general consumer interest towards Tesla.
In June, Volkswagen was able to sell 4,629 Golfs, 839 units less than Tesla’s Model 3, taking second place. This is an impressive difference and clearly demonstrates the shift in interest not just to electric vehicles, but specifically to Tesla. No other EV model made it into the top 10 best-selling cars in June 2021.

It is encouraging to note that sales of battery-powered cars and plug-in hybrids rose more than 100% last month. This trend is likely due to the ban on the sale of gasoline and diesel vehicles starting in 2030. In total, 186,128 new vehicles were registered in the UK last month, up 28% from the same month in 2020. It should be kept in mind that car sales were overshadowed by the pandemic last year, although most dealerships in the country were already re-opened by June.
