Tesla Model Y became the best-selling electric vehicle in the Netherlands in September 2022. The electric vehicle competed with ICE models and ranked eighth in the overall automotive market, showing strong growth.
After Giga Shanghai resumed production following a difficult Q2 and beginning of Q3, and Giga Berlin ramped up production, Tesla's success in the European market has become more tangible. Data coming in from various countries in the region indicate strong demand for Model Y. Although the growth of the compact SUV has been temporarily halted, Model Y is still well on its way to becoming the world's best-selling car, displacing the gasoline-powered Toyota Corolla from this position.
Data from the Netherlands showed that Model Y was the best-selling electric car in September 2022 with 563 registrations. This was a 493% increase from 95 units sold in August. After several months of delays in deliveries, sales have picked up again and are expected to rise further in Q4.
Stronger shipments also saw Model Y enter the top 10 best-selling cars in the country in September 2022. The car came in at eighth place, along with the Renault Captur, which also registered 563 units sold. It is worth noting that Tesla Model Y is the only BEV that made it into the top 10. However, sales of the Kia Niro at 737 units, which ranked third overall, include 245 BEVs units.
