Toyota & Lexus Adopt Tesla NACS, Making their Vehicles More Attractive to North American Customers
  • Tesla's NACS has been adopted by Toyota and Lexus, making their electric vehicles more attractive to North American customers.
  • The company's customers will have access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers in North America.
  • Toyota and Lexus will include NACS ports in their electric vehicles starting in 2025.

Toyota Motor North America, Inc. (TMNA) announced it has reached an agreement with Tesla on adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS) on its battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Some of the company's electric vehicles will be equipped with a new charging port, making them significantly more attractive to local consumers. With this agreement, Toyota and Lexus customers will have convenient access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America.

Starting in 2025, Toyota will include NACS ports on select Toyota and Lexus BEVs. The company said that one of them will be their all-new, three-row, battery-electric Toyota SUV that will be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK). Customers who own or lease eligible Toyota and Lexus vehicles equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) will be offered an NACS charging adapter starting in 2025. With NACS, customers will have access to more charging options and will be able to take advantage of Tesla's broadest charging network.

To date, all major automakers in the world, except Volkswagen, have already joined the NACS alliance. The Tesla charging standard is the most technologically advanced on the market today. In addition, it is also the most reliable, compared to any other providers in the world.

Access to Tesla Superchargers is highly desirable among electric vehicle owners, as the company's charging stations have proven to be the best. Access to more charging stations has always been one of the most basic requirements for electric vehicle owners. All automakers that have joined the alliance have added a few oomph points to their products, thereby attracting more consumers. At the same time, those who have not joined it may even lose existing customers in North America.
