Tesla Theater May Soon Receive New Video Services, Including Twitch and Crunchyroll

The Tesla Theater might get new video services soon, including support for popular streaming sites like Twitch, HBONow and Crunchyroll. The upcoming update to the Tesla Theater will no doubt make Tesla’s vehicles even more enjoyable to use.

Resident Tesla hacker @greentheonly found png files buried deep in the source code of one of the all-electric company’s vehicles for multiple video services. He shared his discovery with the Tesla community via Twitter.

The next-gen automaker hasn’t hinted at any updates to its Tesla Theater lately. Tesla may be planning to drop a big Christmas or New Year surprise to its customers, which may be why it has kept mum about the new video services. The source code @greentheonly found included png codes for the following video services:

  • Twitch
  • Crunchyroll
  • Netflix
  • Hulu
  • HBOGo
  • HBONow
  • YouTube
  • Comedy Central
  • Monty Python

Unfortunately, the Tesla hacker didn’t find a png for Disney+. However, EV and solar enthusiast Jose Fuentes found a workaround for owners who want to watch Disney+ videos in their Teslas. Until Tesla strikes a deal with Disney, the big Mouse's streaming service might not be available for the all-electric fleet, at least officially.

Tesla’s new video services seem timely since the electric car maker just announced its Premium Connectivity Package. With services like Twitch, Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu, subscribing to Tesla’s Premium Connectivity Package may be more worth it.

Tesla's Premium Connectivity Package costs US$9.99 a month or US$120 a year. The streaming service mentioned above can probably still be accessed through WiFi connection to phones. However, Tesla owners may deem it worth the extra US$10 a month to get a direct link to the streaming services from their cars. It might also make streaming much smoother.

If the electric car maker really does release the new video services mentioned above to Tesla Theater, it would make the company's EVs even more fun to own. With the combination of video services like Netflix and HBO and Tesla’s Premium Connectivity Package, the automaker is creating a modern experience for its car owners that is unlike any other.
