Tesla is reportedly discussing the possible construction of a battery factory with CATL. The producers are considering Texas, USA, as a possible building site, but the location has not yet been finalized.

On Thursday, Bloomberg reported that Tesla plans to build a battery factory in the US with China's leading electric vehicle battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL). The electric car maker has been discussing CATL-related plans with the White House in recent days. The publication relies on the words of a person familiar with this matter but does not name them. According to the information, Tesla representatives have been seeking clarity on the Inflation Reduction Act rules.

Tesla wants to strike a deal similar to the one Ford Motor announced last month in Michigan. The deal involved the construction of a battery plant with CATL that would be wholly owned by the American automaker.

According to the reported information, Tesla is considering building a battery factory in Texas so it can supply its electric vehicle assembly factory located there. However, the exact location has not yet been determined. As with the Ford deal structure, Tesla will own and operate the plant, licensing the technology from CATL.
