Tesla continues to improve its vehicles by adding advanced features to them. Now Model Y made in the USA are built with HEPA filter and ‘Bioweapon Defense Mode.’

A Tesmanian source reported in early December 2020 that the 2021 Model Y will have Bioweapon Defense Mode, although no other details were known. This information coincided with a find by hacker @greentheonly/Twitter in October 2020, who noticed several updates for Model Y. He claimed that the car will receive a HEPA filter and corresponding Bioweapon Defense Mode.

In early January 2021, made-in-China Model Y owners began reporting that their vehicles had ‘Bioweapon Defense Mode.’ Reddit user u/xiaoteshushu reported that he discovered a HEPA filter in his Model Y, backing up the post with photos. Over time, it became known that only Model Ys made at Giga Shanghai had such an update and it was not applied to cars made in the USA.

Now The Kilowatts/Twitter has great news: Fremont-made Model Y is also available with HEPA filter and ‘Bioweapon Defense Mode.’ According to the information, the car in which it was found was built in July 2021.

Air quality in big cities can be very poor, which causes health problems for people. The COVID-19 pandemic has made the air, which can be saturated with pathogens, very dangerous. And it is the HEPA Filter and Bioweapon Defense Mode that can significantly improve quality of life for Tesla owners.

The principle of operation of Bioweapon Defense Mode is simple: it uses a HEPA filter to condition the air inside the vehicle. HEPA is a high-performance molecular air filter whose efficiency can reach more than 99.97%, which allows to effectively filter pollutants such as smoke, dust, and bacteria. The stronger the filterability, the smaller the air intake per unit area. To ensure adequate air supply, the Tesla HEPA filter element is quite large.
