Tesla announced today in an SEC filing that President, Automotive at Tesla Jerome Guillen will take on a new role in the company. Now he will handle all heavy trucking related matters as President, Tesla Heavy Trucking.
On March 11, 2021, via Form 8-K, Tesla announced that Jerome Guillen was transitioned to the role of President, Tesla Heavy Trucking. The company noted that Guillen's many years of experience in Tesla's automotive programs, supply chains, service infrastructure development, and his contribution to the development of the process management organization make him stand out. As the company prepares to enter a new market for the first time—the critical heavy trucks market—Guillen, leveraging his vast experience in the industry, will be the best leader in the development of the Tesla Semi program.
"Effective March 11, 2021, Jerome Guillen, President, Automotive, of Tesla, Inc. (“ Tesla ”) transitioned to the role of President, Tesla Heavy Trucking. Since September 2018, Mr. Guillen has successfully overseen Tesla's vehicle programs, supply chain and service infrastructure and contributed to the development of leaders, organizations and processes capable of continuing to direct and operate those functions for our passenger vehicle programs. As Tesla prepares to enter the critical heavy trucks market for the first time, Mr. Guillen will now leverage his extensive background in this industry to focus on and lead all aspects of the Tesla Semi program, including the related charging and servicing networks."
In addition to Guillen's sizable list of accomplishments and qualities, he will make an excellent leader in this role, and he happens to truly love Tesla Semi. The electric truck is his passion. In a 2019 interview with CleanTechnica, he stressed that Semi makes a lot of sense because it has a strong business case. Semi-trucks account for a disproportionate share of US and global emissions. They pollute much more than cars, crossovers, SUVs, and pickups. Converting semi-trucks to electricity will lead to significant improvements in air quality. This will be critical in reducing CO2 emissions within the timeframe society needs.
