Tesla Giga Mexico receives environmental permit approval for its factory. This was an important step before construction could begin.

In March, Tesla announced it would build its next gigafactory in Mexico. Since then, the manufacturer has done a lot of work to make this a reality. Telediario reported that the government of Nuevo León has approved environmental permits for the construction of an electric vehicle plant. The Ministry of Environment decree requires the company comply with the requirements of the Secretariat of Environmental and Natural Resources (Semarnat), the National Meteorological Service (Conagua), the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), and other departments in order to subsequently begin construction work.

The Ministry of the Environment has approved the use of ANFO, a powerful explosive, to level a 2,962,382 square meter site near the highway leading to Saltillo, in the municipality of Santa Catarina. Clearing of the site will be partial. Native trees are required to be saved in areas where construction will not occur. In addition, Tesla must ensure that at least 500 native plants are preserved or planted in the region.

The document establishes that the state has 26 months for Tesla to prepare the site and carry out construction work. However, beforehand, the company must first submit permits for environmental impact and change in the use of forest land, undergo review and approval of the competent authorities for hydrological study and detailed design of the pluvial solution, and make an economic contribution or equivalent compensation to the government.
