The mayor of Coral Gables, Florida, wants to test a Tesla vehicle for the Police Department. His choice fell on Tesla because its electric cars are the most American-made cars.

Coral Gables, Florida Mayor Vince Lago has directed the city's police chief to begin the process of buying a Tesla vehicle. It would not be the first electric vehicle in the city's service, but it will be the first vehicle from the Texas-based manufacturer. The city already has a fleet of more than 70 electric vehicles, including 35 Nissan Leafs and 23 Chevy Bolts.

According to the chief of police, Tesla will be presented as a pilot project. The vehicle will primarily patrol downtown Coral Gables to evaluate its capabilities as a vehicle that is constantly on the move. He also confirmed that the Tesla would not be a take-home option for officers. At the moment there is no information about which model and how many units will be chosen.

Although the cost of Tesla cars is higher than some of the other electric vehicles available for purchase, the mayor is keen to choose the best available, which is made in the USA. He told the Miami Harold (via Drive Tesla):

“Listen, I don't own a Tesla, and I don't own Tesla stock. But at the end of the day, I just want something made in America. If there is a better electric car that's made in America, find it for me.”

In 2022, Cars.com has released the results of an annual study that ranks new cars that contribute the most to the U.S. economy. The 2022 study followed the same principles as in 2020 and 2021, ranking 95 vehicles according to the same five criteria: assembly location, parts content, engine origins, transmission origins, and U.S. manufacturing workforce.

Based on the assessment of all components, Tesla cars not only maintained their first place in the overall standings but also strengthened their presence on the list. Model Y took first place and became the most American-made car, climbing up from third place in 2021. Just behind it is last year's winner, Tesla Model 3. Tesla Model X is in fifth place, and Tesla Model S is in sixth place.

Thus, summing up the positions, it becomes obvious that the entire line of Tesla cars is the most American-made, of which no other automaker can boast. This automatically leads to the understanding that the Texas manufacturer significantly supports the American economy by providing important jobs at home. While U.S. manufacturers often choose to have manufacturing facilities outside and then export cars to sell to Americans, Tesla is focused on selling them cars that are made by their compatriots on their home soil. As Tesla strives to localize its supply chain, its vehicles claim to be 100% domestic, double the industry average.
